NEARLY 85% of barangays in western Pangasinan that were affected by storms in late July that enhanced the prevailing southwest monsoon or habagat now have their power supply restored.

As of August 11, electricity was back in 84.9% or 163 of the 192 affected barangays across nine municipalities, according to data from the Pangasinan Electric Cooperative 1 (PANELCO 1) and confirmed in an interview with its chairman, Engr. Allan Cerdan.

Under the Task Force KAPATID, PANELCO 1 has been working alongside several other electric cooperatives to speed up the restoration efforts. These include the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative, Zambales 1 and 2 Electric Cooperatives, Peninsula Electric Cooperative, and PANELCO 3.

Work is now focused on the remaining 29 barangays.

The restoration efforts have also been supported by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) and the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperative Association (PhilRECA), which deployed 27 personnel since July 29.

In a previous interview, Cerdan assured the public that there would be no sudden increase in electricity rates or charges for customers due to the restoration efforts.

He emphasized that the cooperative is committed to ensuring that any additional costs related to the repairs would not result in an immediate hike in consumer bills. (Ahikam Pasion)
