DECORP power rates slightly up in August
THE Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP) has announced a slight increase in electricity rates for the month of August, citing higher prices in the electricity market and transmission costs.
According to DECORP, the average selling rate for August is now P9.74 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), up from P9.34/kWh last month.
The increase is primarily due to rising electricity prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and additional charges from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for transmission.
WESM operates under a supply-and-demand system, which causes fluctuations in prices depending on energy availability and consumption levels.
For typical households consuming around 100 kWh per month, the increase translates to an additional P0.40 per kWh, or around P40 more in their monthly bill.
Despite the increase, DECORP emphasized that its Distribution, Supply, and Metering (DSM) charges have remained unchanged since 2015. The company continues to encourage consumers to practice energy conservation to help manage their electricity costs.
Consumers are also reminded to pay their electric bills on time to avoid disconnection. (Ahikam Pasion)
