Transport groups anticipate P1 fare hike in July

By July 1, 2025Business

A provisional P1 fare increase may be implemented starting in July, primarily due to the significant and continuing rise in oil prices, according to the provincial transport group.

One Pangasinan Transport Federation President Bernard Tuliao said discussions between transport groups and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have pointed to this potential increase.

He explained that the fare hike would apply to the first four kilometers of a trip.

The public transport sector has been significantly affected by the rising cost of fuel, which has been exacerbated by ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran.

While the LTFRB evaluates the proposed fare hike, the government continues to provide fuel subsidies to public transport drivers and operators. (Ahikam Pasion)
