MANGALDANĀ  Mayor Bona Fe De Vera-Parayno convened a meeting last week with Mangaldan Water District (MAWAD) officials to clarify the impending increase in water rates and to discuss improved response to consumer complaints.

Engr. Marcelo Petonio, manager of MAWAD, which is independent from the local government, explained that the rate increase was approved by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) following an announced public hearing held on December 16, 2022.

He noted that the last time MAWAD increased its water rates was in 2013.

Effective June, the minimum charge for residential customers will rise from P125 to P147.50. The increase also applies to government agencies as well as commercial and industrial establishments.

The mayor urged MAWAD to act swiftly on consumer complaints regarding service quality, such as reports of muddy, unclear, or slow water flow.

Petonio assured that the agency is committed to improving its services through additional pumping stations and regular maintenance of its facilities.

The management also encouraged the public to report concerns, comments, or suggestions via the MAWAD hotline numbers: (075) 513-4229 and (075) 523-5884. (Ahikam Pasion
