DTI inspects, monitors school supplies pricing
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the Ilocos Region closely monitored activities in Pangasinan to intensify the enforcement of fair-trade law to protect consumer rights and promote ethical commerce.
DTI Assistant Regional Director and Officer-in-Charge Natalia Dalaten said 1,083 business establishments across the province were inspected, of which 98.5% were found compliant with regulations, while 16 establishments received Notices of Violation for failing to meet regulatory standards.
The violations ranged from non-compliance with the Standards Law (Republic Act 4109), the Business Name Law (RA 3883), and the Accreditation Law (Presidential Decree 1572). These establishments are now facing adjudication proceedings.
Meanwhile, DTI teams also conducted price monitoring of school supplies in 12 business establishments in San Carlos City and Calasiao, with the new academic year scheduled to start on June 16.
Dalaten said there are sufficient school supplies in retail outlets and prices have not increased from the 2024 level.
Consumers and business owners are encouraged to report any unfair or deceptive trade practices at the DTI Pangasinan office, located on the 2nd Floor of Star Building, Arellano Street, Dagupan City. Inquiries can be made via phone at (075) 636-3975 or email at R01pangasinan@dti.gov.ph. (Ahikam Pasion/Kim Gealogo)
