Pork prices seen to keep rising
PORK prices in Pangasinan’s public markets went up by as much as P20 per kilogram last week, with some cuts hitting P400/kg, hurting both consumers and retailers.
Meat vendor Mang Isidro in Calasiao said they are struggling to sell their products and many are finding it difficult to recoup their investment as the fee for live-weight pigs at slaughterhouses has also increased to P250/kg.
Observers say the prices are likely to keep rising in the days ahead, but the reason for it was not immediately clear, despite earlier reports that national agriculture and trade officials would conduct a review of the value chain to determine the cause of rising pork prices in many parts of the country.
