THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) confirmed the presence of red tide toxin in shellfish, particularly mussels and oysters and other seafood collected from the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda, based on the latest laboratory analysis.

In an April 10, 2025 advisory letter to Governor Ramon Guico III coursed through Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya, BFAR Regional Director Segundina Gaerlan warned of the positive detection of paralytic shellfish poisoning toxins in the affected coastal areas.

BFAR advised concerned local governments to strictly monitor the trade and transport of fish and seafood products, urging market inspectors, quarantine officers, and administrators a to require traders to present an Auxiliary Invoice from the point of origin or a Local Transport Permit issued by BFAR to prove that the products did not come from affected areas.

The BFAR advisory will remain in effect until it issues a new notice. (Eva Visperas)
