THE Bonuan Blue Beach in Dagupan City has been confirmed by technical personnel of the Department of Tourism (DOT) to have the potential as a surfing destination, especially during the summer season between March to May.

Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, himself a surfer, said the technical staff made the assessment upon his invitation on noting that Dagupan already has some of the needed infrastructure in place or lined up for construction.

Among these is the boardwalk that will soon be provided with solar lighting at night; the One Bonuan Pavillon in Bonuan Binloc, a rest and recreation area to be put up by DOT soon, similar to that of Lingayen; and a skateboard park to be built by the city government.

Dagupan’s other attractions include the P60 million Mac Arthur Memorial Park, the Bernal-Edades Cultural Museum whose construction is ongoing, and wide range of culinary delights.

With the confirmation that Bonuan Blue Beach is ideal for surfing, De Venecia said the ball is now in the hands of the Dagupan City government whether to pursue this opportunity.

“I am truly excited. We have everything here to make our place one of the biggest tourist destinations in the country,” said de Venecia. “We just have to sew all these potentials and connect the dots, so we can put all these together in one bundle of whole tourism activities and adventure in Dagupan.

He  added that the city has yet to maximize the potential of the Pantal River as another tourist attraction.

The popular surfing sites in the country include Siargao in Surigao del Norte; San Juan, La Union;  Baler, Aurora; and Borongan City, Eastern Samar. (Leonardo Micua)
