P60-M Rosales Agricultural Trading Center inaugurated

THE Rosales Agricultural Trading Center, located along Barangay Tomana East, was officially inaugurated on March 25, with two Cabinet secretaries leading the ceremony.

Initiated by Abono Partylist Representative Robert Raymund Estrella III, the construction of the P60-million center in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to support farmers in maximizing income from their produce and with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to provide additional financial assistance to the farmers.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., who led the inauguration with DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, said the project will empower farmers and fishermen to become entrepreneurs as well as benefit consumers through more accessible and affordable agricultural goods.

Laurel also announced that the request of the Rosales local government for a rice drying facility and a cold storage facility with a solar power system was granted, while another trading post will be established in Pangasinan.

The Rosales facility which has a space for training at the second floor for seminars and workshops to enhance farmers’ marketing skills, improve product quality, and enable direct wholesale trading was funded by the DA, in cooperation with Abono Partylist. Estrella also donated an 8,000-square meter lot for the project.

In the same event, Gatchalian distributed P38 million worth of checks to 91 Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) from the 5th and 6th Districts of Pangasinan will benefit 1,617 local farmers and 361 vendors.

The seed capital, provided through DSWD aims to empower local farmers and vendors by providing the resources they need to explore new livelihood opportunities.

Otheres who attended by key government officials were DA Regional Director John Pascual, Governor Ramon Guico III, Vice Governor Mark Ronald Labino, Rosales Mayor William Cezar, and Engr. Rosendo So, founding chair of Abono Partylist. (Eva Visperas)
