BFAR inspects new fish processing facility in Lingayen
TECHNICAL experts from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Fisheries Office 1—Fisheries Inspection and Quarantine Unit (FIQU) recently conducted a walk-through inspection of the newly established Food Terminal Incorporated (FTI) Fish Processing Facility in Lingayen.
The inspection of the facility situated on a 2,000-square meter lot designed to process up to one metric ton (MT) of fish daily, focusing on the processing and storage of milkfish sourced from BFAR-registered aquafarms in Lingayen and surrounding areas was held on March 12.
Its operation is expected to provide a significant boost to the region’s aquaculture industry and strengthen the local fish supply chain as well as generate around 50-60 local jobs and open downstream economic opportunities for residents.
It is equipped with two cold storage units, each capable of maintaining temperatures as low as -20°C with a daily capacity of 9.6 MT. Additionally, a blast freezer with a temperature capacity of -40°C and a rated capacity of 1.2 MT ensures optimal preservation of fish products.
FIQU personnel will submit its initial findings and recommendations for further action.
Once formally inaugurated, the facility will be managed and operated by FTI. (Eva Visperas)
