BANGUS (milkfish) was in short supply at the Magsaysay Fish Market in Dagupan due to the cold temperature at night over the past few months, prompting an increase in prices of the city’s most popular product.

As of Monday, March 17, prices for small milkfish ranged from P120 to P140 per kilogram, while larger sizes fetched as much as P160/kg.

Colder weather affects production levels as tropical fish tend to eat less and have a slower growth rate under this condition.

Fish supply is expected to normalize this week with the onset of the summer season. (Ahikam Pasion)
