TO support the numerous businesses that have mushroomed along the Judge Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension in Dagupan City, the Sangguniang Panlungod passed a resolution asking the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to open a jeepney route from Bonuan to Lucao and vice versa.

Councilor and Majority Floor Leader Michael Fernandez filed the resolution, noting a study conducted by the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) and the Public Order and Safety Office that in order to serve the best interest of businesses and the riding public, a new route for public utility jeepneys must be created from Bonuan to Lucao passing through the JdV Expressway Extension.

Fernandez said the proposed route is in line with the Public Transportation Route Rationalization Plan of LTFRB as part of the nationwide Public Transportation Modernization Program.

Ana Mendoza of CPDO said the study also considered the request of ACE Hospital and Medical Center to open a jeepney route from Lucao to Malued and onto Perez Boulevard to cater patients who don’t own any private transportation.

A number of establishments, particularly, restaurants, have also set up shop at JdV Expressway, but their clientele has been limited mainly to those with private vehicles.

A resolution on this matter would have been rejected by the old majority, given the biases of its members against Mayor Belen Fernandez, whose family owns some of the businesses along JdV Expressway. (Leonardo Micua)
