Bayambang adopts Star Wars-themed Christmas
DIGITAL TECH FOR EFFECT
BAYAMBANG, living up to its reputation for innovative Christmas holiday attractions, created a ‘Stars Wars’-inspired universe at the municipal auditorium on November 23 using digital projection mapping to launch its Paskuhan 2024 celebration.
The event featured digital renditions of well-loved characters from the film series, including Yoda, C-3PO, Chewbacca, and R2-D2.
Vice Mayor Ian Camille Sabangan opened the event, thanking Mayor Niña Jose Quiambao and former Mayor Cezar Quiambao for their dedication to creating unforgettable Christmas celebrations in the town.
“Tonight, we’re unveiling something special — a Star Wars-inspired display that will make this year’s Paskuhan truly extraordinary,” she said.
The former mayor reflected on the town’s evolving holiday displays, noting that over the past seven years, Bayambang has gained recognition for its creative Christmas showcases, from animated light shows to last year’s Ghibli-inspired Christmas village. This year, the festival took a digital leap with the Star Wars-themed video projections, made possible by the Niña Cares Foundation.
“While this celebration may seem extravagant, especially considering the challenges of the past years, Christmas brings hope and joy that we all need,” the former mayor said.
Mayor Niña, in a recorded video message, announced the start of distribution of noche buena packages to all 42,000 households in Bayambang on November 25 and encouraged residents to visit the Christmas trade fair, where local businesses will showcase products and delicacies.
In her message, the mayor reminded her constituents of the true meaning of the season: “Christmas is not just about lights, gifts, or decorations, but about love, forgiveness, and unity,” she said. (Eva Visperas)
