P33 daily minimum wage hike in R1 starts Nov. 7
THE Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) of the Ilocos Region granted an additional P33 daily minimum wage hike across all sectors, effectively raising to P468 the daily wage for non-agricultural workers in companies employing at least 10 and P435 for agricultural workers in companies with less than 10.
Wage Order No. RB 1-23 issued by the RTWPB on October 9 setting the new daily minimum wages will take effect on November 7 this year.
According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the new rates for workers represent an 8% increase from the prevailing minimum wages in Region 1 set in an order in October 2023.
DOLE said 170,143 minimum wage earners are expected to directly benefit from the new rates, while around 349,112 full-time wage and salary workers earning above the minimum may also indirectly benefit from upward adjustments.
The RTWPB also issued Wage Order No. RB 1-DW-05, which increased the monthly minimum wage of domestic workers by P500, raising their take home pay from P5,500 to P6,000.
There are around 99,000 domestic workers in the region, about 9% of whom live in their employer’s household. (Leonardo Micua)
