BIR-Ilocos exceeds 3-quarter collection goal
THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Region 1 collected P17.41 billion during the first nine months of the year, surpassing its P16.9 billion goal for the period.
Speaking at a forum, BIR-1 Director Josephine Virtucio said the key industries that contributed to the robust collection in the Ilocos Region include trading, power production and distribution, construction, and health services.
For the full year 2024, the regional bureau is targeting to fetch P22.4 billion, up from last year’s P19.33 billion total collection.
He noted several strategies for enhancing collection, including improving taxpayer services and maintaining transparency and accountability, ongoing information and education drives as well as the implementation of programs such as “Run After Tax Evaders” (RATE), “Oplan Kandado” (Oplan Padlock), and tax mapping.
Under the RATE program, the bureau has filed 108 cases from 2022 to September 30 this year.
These cover 21 from 2022, 69 from 2023, and 18 since January. (Ahikam Pasion)
