THE Department of Science and Technology distributed 15 Portasol, a portable and stackable grain thermal drying tray, to four farmer groups in San Jacinto town last August 14.

The equipment, an alternative to the conventional method of drying crops like rice and monggo on pavement and along highways, minimizes crop spoilage due to mold, pest infestation, and adverse weather conditions.

The beneficiaries are members of Hilltop Organic Farmers of San Jacinto Inc., Awai Labney Lobong Irrigators Association, Bolo Labney Lobong San Jose Irrigators, and Awai Upper Hills Farmers.

Christian Casimiro, DOST Ilocos Region project technical assistant, said the distribution was part of the DOST’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology program with a P547,500 fund(Kim Gealogo)
