HOR BUDSGET SLAMMED

AGRI Partylist Rep. Wilbert Lee has vowed to push for more funds for the Department of Agriculture (DA) when the 2025 national budget hearings reach the plenary, noting that the DA’s allocation was slashed at the committee level.

He said government investments in irrigation and post-harvest facilities are needed to increase local production and cut down on imports, which will ultimately benefit consumers through lower prices.

Speaking at the sidelines of the culminating activities of the Linggo ng Kabataan in Calasiao last week, the congressman said irrigation of all rice lands will double production to more than four metric tons per hectare.

He said post-harvest facilities such as cold storage are also crucial, noting the most recent abundant tomato harvest in Luzon that forced extremely low prices, leaving farmers at a financial loss. (Leonardo Micua)
