Agri goods hub, pig farms up soon in San Fabian

TWO major agricultural infrastructure projects are underway in San Fabian — a trading hub for crops and animal products, and commercial-scale pig farms that will be managed by the local government and cooperatives.

The P7-million market, part of the government’s Kadiwa program, will get a P5 million counterpart fund from the Department of Agriculture-Region 1 for the purchase of delivery vehicles, chest freezers, and other equipment.

It will be located at the town’s Poblacion area and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Municipal Agriculture Officer Johnny Jugo Paraan said the Kadiwa Center will be a trading hub where local producers of vegetables, rice, meat, fishery products, and other farm outputs can directly sell their products.

A meeting with farmers was held August 12 to discuss the center’s operations.

Mayor Marlyn Agbayani said she plans to link the center to neighboring provinces to expand its potential market.

Meanwhile, the local government acquired three structures worth P10 million for the Inspire Project “Babuyan” where each structure will house 300 pigs, and will be managed by the local government, Tocok Aramal Cooperative, and Magliba Farmers Group.

San Fabian is one of the main vegetable producers in Pangasinan, with farms mainly located in barangays Gumot, Inmalog, and Palapad. (Ahikam Pasion)
