TO MEET HIGH DEMAND WITH LOW SUPPLY

THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) implemented a Manual Load Dropping (MLD) causing power interruptions in several parts of Pangasinan last June 1.

The 12 affected towns and city were Binmaley, Lingayen, Bugallon, Aguilar, Mangatarem, Urbiztondo, Basista, Bayambang, Malasiqui, Bautista, Alcala, and San Carlos City.

Manual Load Dropping is being implemented by power corporations and coops to maintain the integrity of system operation, prevent more extensive power outages and eventual collapse of the grid.

According to Engr. Rodrigo Corpuz, general manager of the Central Pangasinan Electric Corporation (Cenpelco) conducted Manual Load Dropping from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm due to low power supply and to meet the consumer’s demands.

Corpuz added that the NGCP will raise a Yellow Alert whenever the supply reserve is thin compared to the required demand.

He said the demand increases especially every summer and as a result, a Red Alert is issued when the demand is increasing more compared to the supply.

Corpuz also encouraged the consumers to conserve electricity due to the critical level of supply. (Kim Gealogo)
