AN investor engaged in renewable energy is eyeing to build wind farms in six areas in Pangasinan that will not affect food supply in Pangasinan.

First Gen Visayas Energy, Inc. (FGVEI) represented by Reman Chua, project manager on renewable energy projects, presented a proposal about wind farms construction to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) during its regular session on April 22.

Vice Gov. Mark Ronald Lambino said FGVEI, one of the companies under the Lopez Group of Companies, that unlike other energy companies, this company is offering a wind energy service contract for a change.

He said Chua identified six areas for their wind farm projects: towns of Infanta, Dasol, Sual, Labrador, Aguilar, Sison and San Nicolas, all of which are under the management of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and are not agricultural.

It was First Gen Visayas Energy that constructed the 150-MW Burgos Wind Project in Burgos, Ilocos Norte.

Chua said World Bank studies that confirm that the wind flow in the six towns is consistent enough to power modern turbines to generate electricity.

Asked about the amount of investment that will be poured in for the wind farm project, Lambino said, the project will cost investors billions in pesos, specifically, not lower than P20-billion to P30- billion investment.

Chua told board members that they want to start their project as soon as all the requirements are accomplished. (Eva Visperas)
