PDEA notes proliferation of shabu in Pangasinan

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Pangasinan admitted the supply of shabu in the province is again steadily rising.

PDEA Provincial Director Richie Camacho said this can be gleaned too from the much lower price of shabu in the underground market today.  He also cited the recent discovery and dismantling of a shabu den in Calasiao where nine persons, including the maintainers were arrested by the PDEA and the police. Price of  rice price expected to nose-dive

RICE traders expect the price of rice in Pangasinan to nose dive this month of March till April owing to ongoing harvest of palay raised from irrigated farms during the second cropping season.

March is the peak harvest of second crop palay season so the existing price of the staple is expected to drop. To date, the price of regularly-milled rice dropped by two pesos per kilo. A kilo of rice is now being sold at P49, from the old retail price of P54 per kilo. Some retailers sell regularly-milled rice at P48 per kilo. (Rona Racca)

Price of eggs dropped by 50% due to oversupply

CONSUMERS last week the market happy and wide-eyed because the eggs they bought was cheaper by 50%, from the usual P8 to P4 per piece.

Engr. Rosendo So, SINAG founding chairman, said the drop in the price was due to the oversupply brought about by the increase in number of entrepreneurs who embarked on raising layer chicken throughout the country. Local egg producers admit the low price of eggs is a big blow to their operations because costs of chicken feeds, maintenance and labor remain high. (Mathew Pacheco)

Backyard pigs in Pangasinan decimated by ASF

THE price of pork will likely reach P400 per kilo if the supply of pigs being butchered at the Mangaldan Slaughterhouse continues to be scant.

Vendors blamed the few supply of pigs to the still continuing African Swine Fever. The Provincial Veterinary Office said the only sources of pigs nowadays are local pig farms that managed to survive despite the ASF when they adopted bio-technology but had cost them a lot. (Joana de Vera)

Pork is expensive by P10 to P30 per kilo

THE price of pork in many markets in Pangasinan again went up by P10 to P30 per kilo, raising the possibility  it will increase further in weeks ahead.

Meat vendors at the Mangaldan Public Market interviewed by IFM Dagupan said they have no choice but to increase the price of pork because live weight of pigs for butchering at the Mangaldan Slaughterhouse increased. They said price of pork is always dictated by supply farm gate price of pigs imposed by producers. (Badz Agtalao)

Pork prices up because of high freight cost, technology

IF the price of pork now reaches P340 to P360 per kilo because the cost of delivery of pigs to the Mangaldan Slaughterhouse is already higher.

The volume of pigs brought to the Mangaldan Slaughterhouse are sourced from Mindoro, so transport entails cost of shipping and truck cargo.  Because of the still raging African Swine Fever, only Mindoro is among the few still free from ASF. The swine farms that adopted the bio-technology imposed higher farmgate price because of the high cost of the  technology applied. (Mathew Pacheco)
