Alaminos City celebrates Hundred Islands and Talaba Festival

THE annual of Hundred Islands Festival and Talaba (Oyster) Festival in Alaminos City kicked-off last March 9, 2024 to celebrate Alaminos farmers’ bountiful oyster harvest and to promote city’s tourism programs.

Alaminos City is known as the province’s biggest oyster grower, and made “’Talaba Ihaw-Ihaw” as a staple event for the month-long festivity.

Some 185 sacks of harvested oysters were cooked over embers of charcoal and eaten during the 400-meter Barangay Poblacion event.

In an interview, City Aquaculturist Mikhael Tamayo said Alaminos has roughly 1.5 hectares of oyster farms located in barangays Pangapisan, Mona, Cayucay, and Balayedaan.

Alaminos City Mayor Arth Bryan Celeste said the local oysters are being marketed in large-scale in the country and hoped that the product will become as popular as the city’s longganisa that has toothpicks on both ends.

Other activities during the festival were: the 1st Hundred Islands Amazing Challenge, Miss Hundred Islands, Hip-hop dance competition, street dancing competition, Agri-Trade and Tourism Expo, and Longganisa cookfest. (Kim Gealogo)
