THE applications of some transport groups in Pangasinan for consolidation to comply with the PUV Modernization Program remain pending.

Reason? To consolidate means, to form a cooperative that must have 15 members, and those with pending applications are unable to have 15 members.

Bernard Tuliao, president of the One Pangasinan Transport Federation (formerly AUTOPro), said the Department of Transportation does not approve applications with less than 15 members.

Tuliao said only five percent (or 100) of jeepney owners in the province have not organized to consolidate.

In Pangasinan, 1,600 operators were able to consolidate and comply with the program.

Tuliao urged the remaining operators to find ways to facilitate consolidation so that they can be registered and eventually have access to loans to purchase modernized PUVs.

Meanwhile, Tuliao said the federation continues to coordinate with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on the status of the other unregistered operators. (Ahikam Pasion)
