Price of rice remains high despite imported rice
DESPITE the entry of imported rice in local markets in Pangasinan, the price of milled commercial rice last week remained high.
In Dagupan City, regular-milled rice was still pegged at P58 per kilogram, while first-class rice was still being sold at P60 per kilogram, the same level during the holiday season in December.
Much to consumers’ bewilderment, the presence of the imported rice, adding to the supply, did not lead to lower prices of rice in the market. In fact, the price of imported rice in the market was also high.
Still, rice vendors indicated P3 increase may be seen in the following days.
Ronnie Ringor, a farmer of Bayambang town, believes the high price of rice will remain until the harvest season for second cropping begins in March to April 2024.
In the meantime, the average Juan dela Cruz will continue to endure the high prices of commodities to continue in weeks ahead. (Ahikam Pasion)
