PRC asks newly-registered nurses to serve PH first

THE continued exodus of registered nurses overseas was noted by the Professional Regulation Commission Region I (PRC-I) and the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) – Pangasinan Chapter, during the oathtaking ceremony of 492 newly-registered nurses in Pangasinan on January 16, 2024.

The situation was highlighted by Merle Salvani, member of the Philippine Board of Nursing (PBN), in her speech as she called on the new registered nurses to prioritize service to the country.

“Pakisuyong pakinggan muna ang hinain ng bansa na kailangan ang mga nars, bago pa maghanap ang mga ito ng trabaho sa ibang bansa,” she said while acknowledging the exceptional service being given by Filipino nurses unmatched anywhere else.

However, despite the country being the top supplier of nurses worldwide, Salvani laments the shortage of nurses in the Philippines and expressed hope that the new nurses begin their careers, in the Philippines and provide quality service to fellow countrymen. (Ahikam Pasion)
