Bangus price down by 20 percent after Christmas

AFTER the long Christmas holiday, the retail price of milkfish in Pangasinan is lower by about 20 per cent, from P200 per kilo during the Christmas season to P180 per kilo.

This was gleaned from the price monitoring on selected agri-fisheries commodities conducted recently by the Department of Agriculture regional  office.

In the same price monitoring, it was learned that tilapia now costs P130 per kilo, local or imported galunggong, P200 per kilo; and alumahan, P180 per kilo. (Joan de Vera)

Price of mussels dips

THE price per kilo of mussels went down by P20 per kilo in the wet market of Dagupan last week. Today, one kilo of mussels gathered in clusters from props installed in various rivers of Dagupan now sells at P60 per kilo, from P80 per kilo the previous week.

But because wet market is now flooded by mussels not only from Dagupan but also western Pangasinan, vendors are even willing to sell mussels at P40 per kilo. Mussels in Dagupan and all coastal areas of Pangasinan are safe for human consumption as they are free from the deadly toxin called red tide presently wreaking havoc in  various mussel farms in the Visayas and Mindanao. Jeepneys drivers against new one-way traffic scheme

JEEPNEYS drivers plying routes in Dagupan City said they have difficulty coping with the new one-way traffic scheme on Arellano Street effected by the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) starting January 6. They said that in the new one-way traffic scheme, commuters going to Bonuan need to walk to Burgos Street yet in order to take their ride.

They said they prefer the old one-way traffic scheme that allowed them to exit along Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension. But they conceded the switch was directed by the DPWH to sped up along Arellano St. (Roma Racca)
