No red tide in 6 coastal areas in Pangasinan

IT’S a happy Christmas holiday celebration for shellfish lovers as the latest advisory from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Regional Office 1 showed that six areas examined in Pangasinan and two areas in La Union are free from the toxic red tides.

BFAR Shellfish Bulletin No. 29 dated Dec. 18, 2023, said “All types of shellfish and 𝐴𝑐𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑠 𝑠𝑝. (or alamang) gathered from the mariculture areas in Infanta and coastal waters of Bolinao, Anda, Alaminos City, Sual and Bani in Pangasinan, and mariculture areas of Rosario and Sto. Tomas in La Union are free from toxic red tides and safe for human consumption.”

Meanwhile, BFAR 1 provided free input materials on December 13 to the stakeholders in the Development of Salt Industry Project (DSIP) for the rehabilitation of their fishery properties damaged by Typhoon Karding at the RMATDEC-Lucap Alaminos City.

Beneficiaries were four individuals (family enterprise) for solar salt production in pond, two individual beneficiaries for solar salt production using High Density (HDPE) Polyethylene, one family – beneficiary on cooking salt production.

There were 122 fisherfolk who received fish trap materials from the Rehabilitation and Recovery Program. (Eva Visperas)
