DTI calls on households to buy noche buena items early
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Pangasinan is encouraging the households to purchase Noche Buena meat items early due to an impending four percent (4%) increase set to take effect by December.
Guillermo Avelino Jr., head of DTI-Pangasinan for consumer welfare, said manufacturers of Noche Buena products and meat processors already reported increased production costs of approximately 15 to 20 percent.
The DTI claims that despite the higher production expenses, manufacturers have committed to keeping price hikes as “minimal” to ensure that consumers can enjoy their holiday celebrations.
DTI plans to release a Noche Buena price guide once the manufacturers establish their respective Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) this month.
Avelino also emphasized that early shopping is also encouraged to avoid long queues at stores during the holiday rush because it only eases the shopping experience but also promotes public health, as shorter queues offer more manageable shopping time.
He further advised the public to purchase Christmas lights and other electrical devices with the ICC and PS marks that signify that the items have undergone quality checks and are safe for use.
Avelino discouraged people from buying cheap Christmas lights, which often have thin wires and are prone to fire hazards. (Ahikam Pasion)
