Dagupan, still as one of the Most Competitive Cities in Region 1 – DTI
DESPITE the undue delay in the passage of its 2023 annual budget for political reason, Dagupan City was chosen anew by the Department of Trade and Industry as one of the Most Competitive Cities in Region 1.
The award was received by Councilor Michael Fernandez and his wife, former Councilor Maybelyn Fernandez, in behalf of Mayor Belen Fernandez who is presently on a goodwill visit to Milpitas City in California, U.S.A., during the 2023 Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) awarding ceremony on November 23, at the La Union Convention Center in San Fernando City, La Union.
Dagupan won the coveted award by placing first in the Infrastructure index, second in Economic Dynamism, and third in term of Resiliency, according to the DTI Regional Office 1.
Speaking from Milpitas City where she led a delegation of Dagupenos during the celebration of sister-city ties between Milpitas City and Dagupan City, Mayor Fernandez said: “This award is a fruit of our labor, and we give due credit to our department heads and employees who worked with us on an almost 24/7 basis.”
She admitted they had difficulties, especially in terms of the political side of work, “ but that can’t stop us to move forward and look for better ways to serve our people”.
“Our people need results, they demand a better city, so this award is especially for them”, she added in a talk from Milpitas City.
Under Mayor Fernandez, Dagupan City has consistently topped the regional CMCI under the Independent Component City Category.
The CMCI, a project of DTI, is the measurement of the overall competitiveness of the LGUs (local government units) in the field of government efficiency, economic dynamism, resiliency, and innovation. (Leonardo Micua)
