Transport groups hail P1 fare hike
STARTING this Sunday, October 8, public utility vehicles in Pangasinan, including traditional and modern jeepneys, will see a one-peso provisional fare increase.
While this increase may be seen as modest, the Alliance of United Transport Organization Provincewide (AUTOPRO) in Pangasinan views it as “a reason for joy, offering some relief to drivers who have been struggling with soaring fuel prices.”
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) granted requests to alleviate the concerns of the transport sector amid consecutive oil price hikes.
Under the provisional fare hike, the minimum fare for traditional jeepneys will be P13, while modernized jeeps will charge P15 for the first four kilometers, with an additional one peso per succeeding kilometer.
LTFRB Chief Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III clarified that this provisional fare increase may be revoked once oil prices return to normal levels. Additionally, the LTFRB is set to review another petition for a permanent five-peso fare increase filed by transport groups, alongside similar requests from other transport organizations.
