New and larger Umingan hospital to rise soon

THE provincial government is gearing up to build an expanded Umingan Community Hospital (UCH) in Umingan town this year.

This project is proceeding with a proposed Sangguninang Panlalawigan resolution seeking clearance from the Department of Health to construct additional infrastructure for the medical facility.

Third District Board Member Shiela Baniqued filed SP Resolution No. 1571-2023, titled “Endorsing to the Department of Health the application of the Umingan Community Hospital, Province of Pangasinan, for a permit to construct a new health facility.”

Dr. Tracy Bitoy, chief of hospital at UCH, reported that the hospital has an authorized bed capacity of 15 and admits an average of 48 to 50 patients. However, she said, the number of patients increases to 60 patients every last quarter of each year.

Board Member Baniqued pointed out that UCH is one of the 14 hospitals operated by the provincial government, serving various areas in the province’s sixth district and its continued increasing number of patients prompted her to advocate for the construction of a new health facility.

The new infrastructure will include more spacious health stations to accommodate a larger number of clients in need of medical attention and related services.

The proposed site for the new Umingan Community Hospital will be located in a five-hectare lot in Barangay Gonzales, approximately a 10-minute drive from its current location in Burgos St., Poblacion West.

Vice Governor Mark Lambino said the provincial government has allocated P196 million in 2023 budget to fund the construction and expansion of the bed capacity from 15 to 50 and is ready for implementation early next year.

The old site will be used to house ‘first response’ units, including the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Provincial Agriculturist, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, and Social Welfare, among others. (Eva Visperas)
