Capitol welcomes new NGCP projects in Pangasinan
IN anticipation of the increase in demand of electricity, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) is installing a 174-kilometer transmission line from Candelaria town in Zambales to Sual town in Pangasinan.
NGCP officials led by Winifred Paguia, construction regional manager of North Luzon Project Division A, told members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in a recent presentation that in Zambales, the two towns of Candelaria and Sta. Cruz will be affected while it will traverse the towns of Infanta, Dasol, Mabini, Alaminos City, Sual and Labrador in Pangasinan.
NGCP is seeking the support of the provincial governments through a resolution for the Western Luzon 500kV Project (Stage 2) that will not only support the economic activities and development of the two provinces but will also improve their voltage level for reliable transmission service.
Paguia added that the project has a sub-station component that will connect the end of their line and they will have breakers to be constructed at their existing sub-stations in Bolo, Labrador.
He said NGCP will build four sets of 500kV circuit breakers plus the associated equipment, and its coordination with the barangays, towns and city to secure building permit, locational clearance, and other requirements is ongoing so work can start immediately.
Paguia said they expect to complete the project by May 2025 and the project would have been energized by June, meaning the 500kv transmission line is already functioning and dispatching power for the power plant that needs transmission line.
Sixth District Board Member Noel Bince said the NGCP project by will be referred to the Committee on Energy, Infrastructure initially.
Vice Governor Mark Lambino welcomed the project adding that this expansion of grid is necessary considering that there are private corporations that have signified their intention to construct additional solar plants in the province.
“We’re expecting about one, at least for the next year around, one gigawatt worth of additional power to be produced in the province that’s why, we welcome the energy upgrading of the NGCP here in the province,” he said. (Eva Visperas)
