Bolinao airport in the offing, too
THE development of Bolinao town as a major tourist destination in Pangasinan is expected to get a boost after Gov. Ramon Guico III announced a plan to build an airport in the town is already in the drawing board.
He announced the plan to make Bolinao more accessible during the Monday flag raising ceremony of the provincial government on September 4.
He reiterated the plan during the press conference for the soft launching of Banaan Provincial Museum at the Casa Real in Lingayen.
“Nasa drawing board na rin po yun. Meron na pong steps upang magawa po natin,” Guico said.
He said once the airport is constructed, commercial flights from Manila and Clark airports will fly in tourists similar to what’s being done in El Nido, in Palawan and in some resort destinations in the country.
He cited tourist attractions in Bolinao that include its pristine white sand beach, salt farm, pre-historic skulls, marine sanctuary of giant clams.
Meanwhile, Vice Gov. Mark Lambino said in a separate interview earlier, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the resolution for the upgrade, rehabilitation and possible transfer of the existing Lingayen airport.
He said over the past months, a number of investors have expressed interest in the project and in the proposal of Second District Rep. Mark Cojuangco for an airport project.
Lambino said the proposal for the Bolinao airport is being pursued because the best beaches are in western Pangasinan but their accessibility is a major problem.
He said even with the construction of the Pangasinan Link Expressway, although travel time is expected to be reduced by 50 percent, the destination is still very far for tourists.
He said being eyed as possible site is between Bolinao and Bani. (Eva Visperas)
