Bangus sells for P200; white onions, P140

PRICE of bangus (milkfish) in Pangasinan has increased by P20 last week, according to the prevailing retail price of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region I.

Reports say that bangus was being sold for P200 per kilo, from its P180 price in July.

Bangus growers attributed the increase in the price to low supply after some pens and ponds overflowed due to recent torrential rains and flooding.

Price of tilapia, on the other hand, was steady at P140 per kilo, so was the price of  imported and local galunggong, at P200 per kilo.

Meanwhile, while prices of most vegetables were not increased, white onions were sold at P140 per kilo, or a P20 increase compared to previous weeks.

Siling labuyo was still being sold for P500 per kilo, from P200 price last month.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recorded a 1.3% decrease in supply of agriculture and fishery products in the second half of 2023.

The fisheries industry pulled down the overall production of agriculture and fish products.

Production in the fishery sector plummeted to 14.2% while crop production increased by 1.2%. (Ahikam Pasion)
