14 towns in ASF ‘red’ areas upgraded to pink zones

FOURTEEN towns and cities earlier classified as ‘Red zones’ for African Swine Fever (ASF)  have been upgraded to ‘Pink zones”, after these were confirmed to have had no more cases detected in their areas.

This was the recent report from the National ASF Prevention and Control Program (NASFPCP) based on the updated log since its latest monitoring dated August 22 this year.

In sum, 32 in Region 1 out of 372 cities/municipalities in the country were upgraded.

Upgraded were the cities of Dagupan and San Carlos, and towns of Agno, Asingan, Bani, Basista, Bugallon, Calasiao, Laoag, Lingayen, Mabini, Sta Barbara, Sual, and Tayug.

Meanwhile, 29 areas in Pangasinan upgraded from Pink to Yellow Zones were: Aguilar, Alcala, Bautista, Balungao, Bayambang, Binalonan, Binmaley, Dasol, Infanta, Malasiqui, Manaoag, Labrador, Mangaldan, Mapandan, Natividad, Pozorrubio, Rosales, San Manuel, Sison, Sta Maria, Santo Tomas, San Fabian, San Nicolas, San Quintin, San Jacinto, Umingan, Urdaneta City, and Villasis.

Alaminos City, Anda, Bolinao, and Urbiztondo still remain as Red Zones.

No Green or Light Green Zones have been logged in the province.

Areas marked Red under the Infected Zone have confirmed recorded ASF cases in the past 90 days while buffer or Pink Zones are cities/municipalities adjacent to infected Zones that  have not reported new ASF cases.

Yellow or Surveillance Zones are considered high-risk areas because of dense population of swine, and volume of trade of pigs, pork, and pork products.

Light Green Zones are areas with no cases of ASF and considered at low-risk, while Dark Green Zones, also called Free Zones, are geographical limits which remain free from ASF virus.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture ordered the continued ban to transport hogs and pork products from the Red Zones such as cooked and canned processed pork (chicharon, hotdog, lechon, ham, etc.), unless a License to Operate from the Food and Drug Administration, and a Certificate of Product Registration from said agency has been issued for every product shipped.
