‘Ber’ months to bring in fresh supply of rice, stabilizing prices – SINAG
THE price of rice in the market is expected to stabilize as soon as the months ending with “ber” come around, according to Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG).
Engr. Rosendo So, SINAG founding chairman, said this is normal because it is usually during the “ber” months of September, October, November and December when farmers in Pangasinan harvest their palay.
Fresh palay harvests from the fields will add rice supply to the market and force the price of the commodity to go down, explained Engr. So.
Today, one bag of rice that sold for P930 in the past is selling from P1,200 to P1,300 per bag.
So wonder no more if owners of carinderias charge additional P10 for each cup of rice.

Price of pork in Dagupan drops during rainy days
HOUSEHOLDS in Dagupan are surprised to see the price of pork in the markets dropped by a P20-P30 during the last few days, while the prices of other basic commodities soared.
Sharon Nisperos, a meat vendor at the Malimgas Public Market in Dagupan, told IFM Radio Dagupan, that pork now sells from P320 to P330 per kilo, compared to P340-P360 per kilo the previous weeks.
The decrease in the price of pork happens during the rainy season when the climate is colder because pigs do not eat much and grow slowly.
But despite the little drop in the price of pork, the sales of frozen imported meat in the public markets remain noticeably slow, indicating that consumers still prefer the locally-produced meat though costlier, Nisperos said.

Jeepney, tricycle drivers bemoan weekly hike in fuel cost
JEEPNEY and tricycle drivers of Dagupan City have been suffering the most from the weekly increases in the prices of diesel, gasoline, kerosene and other oil products.
In addition, they say they have to contend with payments of traffic violation citations (P200 per violation) by Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) traffic enforcers.
They are hoping that after weeks of continuous oil price increases, a big time roll back in prices will soon next take place.

PDEA declares 1,123 barangays drug-cleared
AS of last week, 1,123 barangays or 90 percent of the province’s 32 towns and cities, have been given their drug-cleared status by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Meanwhile, PDEA Provincial Director Richie Camacho said there are 16 drug-affected towns.
Still considered as most drug-affected in Pangasinan are the cities of Dagupan and San Carlos, and the town of Binmaley.
Camacho expressed hope that with the continuing submission of requests of barangays for re-assessment of their present drug-status, the number of drug-cleared barangays in Pangasinan will increase.

Onion price in Mangaldan now higher by P50 per kilo
THE price of onion in the public market of Mangaldan is now P160-P170 per kilo, higher by P40 to P50 than the price per kilo of the commodity last week.
IFM Dagupan said the onions sold by vendors are sourced from cold storage facilities owned by importers of the commodity.
SINAG confirmed that the higher prices of onion today are imposed by traders importing onion because there are no onions coming directly from farmer-producers since it is still not yet time for onion harvesting.
Bulk-buying by households for stocking purposes contributes to depletion of onion supply in the market.

Teachers not happy about order for wall decor removal
EVEN teachers are not happy with the order of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte directing them to remove art work, decorations, tarpaulin, posters and other visual materials inside classrooms per her Order No. 21, Series of 2023.
The order was made to ensure that teachers could focus more on the educational advancement of the child.
However, some teachers lament that among those that will be removed from the classrooms are visual aid materials that they use to teach children how to read and write.
Teachers said those visual aids and other materials and decors were prepared by them personally to aid them in effectively teaching their pupils. They said without decors, classrooms would have a minimalist ambiance, bare and will have no aura of friendliness.
But the teachers concede that they cannot do anything but to follow the order of their education secretary.
