Farmers learn drone spraying technology in corporate farming
FARMER groups from Pozorrubio, Villasis, Urdaneta, and Binalonan witnessed Wednesday August 23, 2023 a demonstration of how drone can be used to spray insecticides in a 23-hectare corporate farm in Barangay Santiago, Binalonan town.
The drone spraying demonstration is part of the corporate farming program being promoted by the provincial government to reduce farmer expenses in the production of rice.
Corporate farming consolidates small lots into a contiguous area of 17, 20 and 30 hectares to enable agri-equipment like Harvesters, drones, big tractors can be employed more efficiently.
According to Sam Sison, the Department of Agriculture’s supervisor in charge of implementing the corporate farming program, the project seeks to increase the production of rice farmers and at the same time assist the government’s long term target to reduce price of rice to P25 per kilo.
Binalonan is among 5 other towns chosen as pilot towns in the provincial government’s implementation of a corporate farming project-a town in each district. (Gin Quesada)
