THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded employers to properly compensate employees if they have been asked to report for work on Ninoy Aquino Day (August 21) and the National Heroes’ Day (August 28).

On Ninoy Aquino Day (August 21), an employee asked to work on said day is entitled for a basic pay per day plus an additional thirty-percent of the basic daily wage on the first eight hours of work.

For work done in excess of eight hours or overtime work, the employer is mandated to pay the employee an additional thirty-percent of the hourly rate on said day.

If an employee is required to work on said day despite it being his day off, he is entitled to an additional fifty-percent of the basic wage of the first eight hours of work. For any overtime work, said employee is also entitled to an additional thirty-percent of the hourly rate.

Meanwhile, on National Heroes’ Day  (August 28), compensation rates are higher since it is a regular holiday.

If the employee does not work on said date, he is also entitled for a day’s wage on said day.

If he is required to work on said date, he is mandated to receive double pay, or two hundred percent of the employee’s daily wage, and if the employee works more than eight hours to do overtime work, an additional thirty percent of the hourly rate on said day should be paid to him on top of the two hundred percent base wage.

For work done on the employee’s rest day, another additional thirty percent of the hourly wage is also added to his pay. (Ahikam Pasion)
