THE Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 1 (DOLE RO1) already implemented more than P320-million worth of assistance for its emergency employment program under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) to date.

Most of the TUPAD workers in Region 1 were in Pangasinan with 28,111 workers, while Ilocos Norte had 18,633; Ilocos Sur with 14,817; and La Union with 4,796.

Preliminary semestral data shows that TUPAD has employed 66,357 emergency workers in Region 1, who rendered labor input in various community projects from January to June 2023, resulting in the utilization of P328,066,052 for the TUPAD implementation; 94% of the amount, or P 308 Million, were released as wages for the TUPAD beneficiaries.

Each TUPAD worker earned P400 per day for the duration of the specific community work which usually took 10-15 days. Most beneficiaries received P4,000 to P6,000.

DOLE Regional Director Exequiel Ronie Guzman said the relentless implementation of TUPAD is aligned to the country’s initiatives on employment recovery.

“While it is apparent that economic activities are steadily returning back to normal, some of our constituents are still grappling with the economic impacts of the pandemic… hence, the TUPAD is still here to serve as a vehicle for our low-income and marginalized workers to transition towards more sustainable economic undertakings,” said Guzman.  (Eva Visperas)
