DA confirms ASF deaths in 3 western towns

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 1 recently confirmed the presence of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Western Pangasinan.

The town of Anda was the first town placed under Pink zone by DA. It was followed by reports of recorded ASF cases in Alaminos City and Bolinao.

Recall that The PUNCH reported last week that some hogs in undisclosed locations died mysteriously, considering ASF as a potential suspect.

DNA samples of hogs suspected to have died from ASF, were taken for laboratory test by the Bureau of Animal Institute (BAI), and tested positive for ASF.

ASF was also the leading cause of hog mortality in the western part of the province.

Meanwhile, Anda Municipal Agriculturist Elizabeth Tomas said transport of hogs have been restricted since receiving confirmation report from the DA.

She said hog owners have been instructed to immediately bury their dead. (Ahikam Pasion)
