Pangasinan’s chefs take ‘PONSIA,’ culinary challenge
“FOOD is culture, habit, craving, and identity.” This best personifies ‘Ponsia,’ one of the highlight activities of this year’s Pista’y Dayat celebration today, April 30, at the Sison Auditorium in Lingayen.
According to Provincial Tourism and Cultural Arts Office (PTCAO) led by Luisa Elduayan, Ponsia, a Pangasinan word meaning “feast,” is a culinary challenge that will see the participation of chefs in the province.
Conceptualized to celebrate the province’s rich culinary heritage and abundant food resources, the cooking challenge is also staged to celebrate the Filipino Food Month as proclaimed through Presidential Proclamation 469.
During the contest proper, participants will prepare three sets of dishes, a seafood-based appetizer or soup, a meat-based main dish, and a dessert using local ingredients.
The competition is open to chefs of restaurants operating in Pangasinan.
In addition, the food festival will simultaneously feature live cooking demonstration from each chef-contestant, and celebrity chefs invited by the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Region 1.
Exhibits/marketing booths from various Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will be available. (PIO/RRB)
