Enough egg supply assured despite poultry ban
SUPPLY of eggs in the province of Pangasinan remain sufficient, despite the months-long poultry ban by the provincial government.
The Provincial Veterinary Office, in a statement, said the province can sustain its local demand for consumption of eggs, despite Executive Order No. 0016 Series of 2023 that took effect on March 2.
The Executive Order extends the total ban on the entry of all poultry products, eggs included, from the provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, Sultan Kudarat, Benguet, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Maguindanao, Isabela, Quezon, Kalinga, Aurora, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Capiz, and Batangas to Pangasinan.
Some of these provinces also provide large quantities of egg supplies in the province.
However, with the advent of the warm and dry season, some poultry began to die from heat stroke.
The PVO however, said that these are only isolated cases, and that the egg supply will not diminish although egg production is expected to go down owing to the effect of the hot environment on egg-laying hens.
Meanwhile, in Malimgas Market, medium-sized eggs are being sold at P8 to P9 apiece while large eggs are sold at P10 apiece, and small eggs at P7. (Ahikam Pasion)
