LTFRB deploys spot-monitoring teams vs overcharging PUVs

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region I has deployed its personnel to conduct spot-monitoring on reports of overcharging by public utility vehicles

Atty. Mark Anthony Espenilla, LTFRB R-1 Legal Division, said the deployment will check strict compliance with the fare matrix guidelines issued to operators and drivers of public utility vehicles.

Espenilla said their office has received numerous complaints from passengers of overcharging fares by some identified PUV drivers.

“Kailangang siguruhin ng mga commuters na may nakapaskil na fare matrix sa kanilang mga sinasakyang PUV at PUJs”, said Espenilla as a word of caution to the public.

The LTFRB did not disclose the number of erring drivers caught, but Espenilla warned more will be caught and fined for overcharging or cutting trips.

Meanwhile, LTFRB said it has distributed fuel subsidy to 2,291 beneficiaries or 88 percent of identified total beneficiaries in the region.

“Marami pa ring mga driver at operator ang hindi pa nakakuha ng ayuda”, said Espenilla pointing out that some beneficiaries failed to get their allotted subsidy because of inconsistencies in their submitted data.

Drivers and operators who were awarded as beneficiaries, but were unable to redeem their fuel subsidy cards may proceed to the LTFRB Regional Office in San Fernando City La Union.

They should bring their documents pertaining to their subsidy.

The fuel subsidy program of the LTFRB is the initiative of the national government to registered drivers and operators to help them sustain their livelihood after the COVID-19 pandemic. (Ahikam Pasion)
