Pangasinan’s hog industry resurrected
THE hog industry in Pangasinan is recovering fast since the infection of the African Swine Flu has been effectively contained, according to the Provincial Veterinary Office.
Dr. Jovito Tabarejos, acting provincial veterinarian, said many households are back to their backyard livelihood, raising hogs to supplement family incomes.
Despite the soaring price of commercial feeds and notwithstanding the fact that the Department of Agriculture has yet to declare Pangasinan as ASF-free, the number of households that resumed raising hogs had doubled, Tabarejos said.
The DA earlier dispersed sentinel hogs to different households in Pangasinan and not one was reported to have been infected by ASF. (Rona Racca)

Low business permit renewal noted on Calasiao
THE Market Division Office of the Calasiao local government reiterated its appeal to business owners to renew their business permits for year 2023 after noting that only lower than 50% have renewed their permits in the month of January.
Records of the Market Division Office showed that there are more than 300 business establishments in Calasiao registered in 2022. Teams from the town’s Market Division are visiting business establishments in and out of the public market to urge them to renew their respective business permits.
Teddy Tuliao, market supervisor, said it is disheartening to see that less than half of the number have yet to renew their business permits and warned that late registrations are penalized with 25% fine. (Jhon Caranto)

More ayuda to Pangasinan famers sought
SECOND District Rep. Mark Cojuangco is pushing for the grant of additional financial assistance to local farmers in view of the continuous rising prices of commodities seeds, fertilizers and pesticides.
Cojuangco made the call following the distribution to farmers of the Rice Farmers’ Financial Assistance (RFFA) and Intervention Monitoring Card (IMC) from the Department of Agriculture.
Saying the RFFA is not enough, local farmers called on the DA to extend for more assistance for them to be able to cope with the difficult period including spiraling prices of food and other commodities. (Joana de Vera)
