Dagupan City to build its own slaughterhouse
A construction of an slaughterhouse in Dagupan City is already certain following a courtesy call by officials of the National Meat Inspection Service-Regional Technical Operation Center 1 (NMIS-RTOC 1) on Mayor Belen Fernandez last week.
In that visit, Mayor Fernandez expressed her intention to build a slaughterhouse for Dagupan to improve the livelihood of meat vendors who are getting stiff competition from dealers of frozen imported meat and to stop “hot” meat from reaching the Dagupan markets.
Fernandez said the slaughterhouse project was endorsed by the City Development Council and this was welcomed by meat vendors and butchers in the city.
Officials of NMIS RTOC 1 and Dagupan City said they will study model slaughterhouses in other towns in crafting a system for a proposed slaughterhouse of Dagupan.
With a modern slaughterhouse, households in Dagupan will be assured that the meats they buy from their markets are fresh, safe and sanitary.
After their call on the Dagupan mayor, NMIS-RTOC 1 officials conducted monitoring, surveillance and seizure of hot meat from the public markets and supermarkets to ensure that the meat that consumers are buying this holiday season are safe, clean and of superior quality.
