THE provincial government led by Gov. Ramon Guico III and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) represented by Atty. Ricky Arzadon, Office of the Undersecretary for Field Operations and Environment, signed a memorandum of agreement for the Interim Management of the foreshore area for Salt Production.

Identified area for salt production is 473.880 hectares of foreshore land in Barangay Zaragoza, Bolinao town.

The agreement seeks to ensure continuity of operations in the salt industry and ensure security of tenure to some 400 displaced salt-workers within the aforementioned area by providing all necessary services, technology and financing.

The agreement was reached to prepare for the looming salt shortage at the end of the 2023 since local production does not cover domestic demand per previous announcement of Department of Agriculture (DA).

The government’s share will be computed based on DENR Administrative Order No. 98-67, otherwise known as “Guidelines for the Identification and Award of Areas Suitable to Salt Production. (PIA Dagupan/AMMB)
