Vegetable sales in Urdaneta’s agri-trading post still low

By December 12, 2022Business

DESPITE the lower prices of vegetables at the Urdaneta City Trading post, households are not buying as much.

Vendors said prices of lowland veggies such as okra, lima beans, eggplants, squash, and ampalaya have dipped by at least P10 per kilo while prices of onion and garlic, remain cheaper by P5 per kilo.

Ginger remains stable at P30 to 35 per kilo while lasona is P10-P 20 lower compared to last month.

Vendors said the drop in the prices is due mainly to increased supply.

Jorge dela Cruz, a ‘bagsakan’ vendor, said he expects the demand for lowland veggies on or about third week of December.

The price situation, however, for upland veggies, or vegetables transported from the Cordilleras remain high due to low supply, i.e., celery, potatoes, and carrots are sold for P65 – P90 while broccoli, umbok, and cabbages sell for P70 to P90, while pechay is steady at P30.

Even demand for fruits that traditionally are higher every December is still low. (Ahikam Pasion)
