OCEA, a French firm specializing on maritime safety, security, navigation, shipbuilding, and integrated logistics support, is eyeing to build a shipyard in Sual.

The French company is expected to invest P1.5 billion in its ship-building project in the port of Sual, a project that is expected to create 500 to 600 direct and indirect jobs.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. discussed this with officials of Ocea at the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-European Union (ASEAN-EU) Commemorative Summit in Brussels, Belgium.

In that discussion, Sual Pangasinan was identified as one of the possible locations for the planned shipyard, aside from Mariveles, Bataan; Batangas and Subic.

Ocea is looking forward to build 15-meter by 120-meter ships to be sold in the international markets, intended to be used for maritime safety and security, transportation, and fisheries.

President Marcos thanked the firm’s commitment and assured OCEA of his support to speed up the process for establishing its business in the Philippines. (Jovelyn Domingo, UdD)
