A resolution was passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) deferring the holding of motor shows in all towns and cities following an accident during a motor show in Mapandan town on the night of November 19 where one spectator was killed and three others were injured.

Introduced by Fourth District Board Member Jerry Agerico Rosario, the resolution enjoined all component LGUs to temporarily ban the holding of motor shows that feature, display and demonstrate performances of motorcycles with modified engines, exhaust systems and other mechanical enhancements.

The resolution states the ban will stay till the Mapandan incident is fully investigated and safety precautions are coordinated and implemented with concerned agencies and departments as well as the other stakeholders.

The Pangasinan police had reported that Mark Anthony Moreno, 16, a grade 10 student, of Barangay Jimenez, Mapandan, was rushed to the Mapandan Community Hospital due to body injuries, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Others injured were Mark Anthony Cunanan, 20, a senior high school student; Ericka Agrace  Carino, 16, also a high school student of Barangay Coral, Mapandan.

The students, all spectators to the motor show, were hit by the flying debris from the engine’s crank case of the crashed motorcycle.

Also injured was Kim Justin LLena, 20, a college student, of Lambayan, Mapandan, owner of the Yamaha Aerox motorycle whose engine crank case exploded when the same crashed.

Cases of homicide and three counts of physical injuries were already filed by the Mapandan Police against the organizer of the motor show as well as the owner of the motorcycle that crashed.

In another motor show in Tayug held this year,  the organizer was slammed by residents  for featuring a lewd show to entertain the crowd of motorcycle enthusiasts. (Leonardo Micua)
