THE Dagupan-based CSI Supermarket is the fifth most preferred retailer nationwide, sharing the limelight with such business conglomerates like Puregold, SM, Mercury Drug and Robinsons, and beating all competitors in Northern and Central Luzon, a recent study shows.

The 2022 study of Kantar, a leading data and consulting company, evaluated national and regional retailers using the Consumer Reaching Points (CRP) metric that determined brand penetration, calculating the number of shoppers and the number of times they have made purchase in a particular retailer within 12 months.

The study, showed Puregold ranked first among the Top 10 list as the most preferred retailer, followed by SM Supermarket (2nd), Mercury Drug (3rd), Robinsons (4th) and CSI Supermarket (5th). CSI is the only regional retailer in the top five list.

Rounding up the Top 10 list are the Cebu-based Prince Hypermart (6th), Alfamart (7th), Gaisano Grand Malls (8th), LCC Supermarket (9th), and 7-Eleven (10th).

CSI considers the study as very significant because it is the only supermarket operating in Northern and Central Luzon that was included in the Top 10 list. CSI operates malls and supermarkets with five outlets in Dagupan. and one each in Lingayen, Mangatarem, San Carlos City, Malasiqui, Bayambang, Mangaldan, San Fabian, Manaoag, Pozorrubio, Rosales and Tayug.

Outside of Pangasinan, CSI maintains malls and supermarkets in San Fernando City and Agoo, La Union; Candon, Ilocos Sur; Camiling, Tarlac; and Iba, Zambales.

At least 41 percent of fast moving consumers goods (FMCGs), such as coffee and noodles, were sourced from neighborhood sari-sari stores, registering an increase of 6 percent compared to the data obtained in 2020.

The same report said the sale of hypermarkets and supermarkets decreased from 34 percent in 2020 to 28 percent in 2022. (Leonardo Micau)
